In an exciting step towards gender equality and industry advancement, the Australian Marine Pilots Institute (AMPI) proudly announces its collaboration with International Maritime Pilots Association (IMPA), Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), Woodside, Pilbara Ports, Integral Maritime, Fremantle Pilots, and Port Phillip Sea Pilots, to send its members, Capt. Gemma Capone and Caitlin Garrett, to the heart of maritime safety – International Maritime Organization (IMO) Headquarters.
Aligned with the UN’s theme for International Women’s Day 2024, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” AMPI’s participation signifies a commitment to encouraging change and empowering women in maritime. Capt. Gemma Capone, a Woodside pilot, and Caitlin Garrett, an associate member under AMPI’s Mentoring Program, will join forces with global leaders at IMO International Women in Maritime Day 2024 and the IMO Maritime Safety Committee 108.
This historic endeavour marks the inaugural representation of a Marine Pilot from IMPA at IMO in a Women in Maritime symposium. Under the theme “Safe Horizons: Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety,” AMPI and IMPA celebrate Capt. Gemma Capone’s selection for this prestigious event, with gratitude extended to Woodside for their support in accepting this opportunity.
AMPI also extends its acknowledgement and appreciation to Pilbara Ports, Integral Maritime, Fremantle Pilots, and Port Phillip Sea Pilots for sponsoring Caitlin Garrett’s attendance. The invaluable insights gained during this trip will enrich industry practices and pave the way for a safer, more inclusive maritime future.
